It was 8 1/2 yrs. ago, a friend of my husband and I had come over for a visit. With her she had this kitten that she was taking care of because it was taken from her mother too soon. She was the cutest little grey calico.

We, my husband and I, already had one 6 month old all black female cat. I sweet talked my husband into letting us take the kitten. Our friend told us what to do with her food and how to train her to use the litter box.

She was so tiny, we kept her in the bathtub with blankets, we were afraid she’d get lost in the house. It took us a quite a few days to come up with her name. I was trying to come up with some cutesy name, but my husband wasn’t having it.

Well our other cat was named Pantera (yes after the Heavy Metal group), Tera for short. So we decided to go that route again. I started looking through our CD collection (which consists mostly of Rock and Heavy Metal).

One band my husband listened to a lot at the time was Sepultura. I went through of few of their CDs and we came up with Chaos, off of Sepulturas Chaos A.D. It’s a fitting name, really. Chaos has her own way as does any feline.

She is not a cuddlier nor affectionate at all and likes to socialize from afar. She’d rather just sit and stare at you. She can be rather lazy, but does get a bit of an energy boost every now and then and will just start running the hall for no reason.

She is not a noisy cat either. Only time you will actually hear Chaos meow is when she finds one of her favorite little toys (a glitter ball) and meows at that. Chaos is a very clean cat!

Chaos will literally wipe her paws on the side of her litter box before she jumps out of it. Chaos has, as I call it, a smell fetish. Probably goes along with her being so clean. Like I said she is not affectionate, but if you just get out of the shower she will be your best friend.

She will rub all over your feet and she will get up behind you and rub in your hair. Same if you just put lotion on. When I am giving the baby a bath or sitting in the tub myself she is right there sitting on the side of it. And when I am done cleaning, especially bleach cleaner, she again will rub herself all over it. Chaos is her name and it fits.

This is the story of my cat named Kahlua and how he came to be a part of our family. One day in the month of June over 5 years ago, I was walking to the back entrance to my office and out pops this little tiny black and white kitten about 9 wks old.

Now I had just lost my cat “Perty” to old age and it had been about 6 months since I had a cat. This little kitten almost had the exact same markings as Perty and I had to rescue him.

The crazy thing is that this kitten had apparently held on to this car somewhere in the motor for over a 45 minute drive! I had asked the girl at work who owned the car that Kahlua was found under and she told me that her neighbor’s cat had kittens.

Well Kahlua proved to be one that could hang on to almost anything! I remember one night he was sleeping behind my head on top of the couch and he fell, I got up thinking this poor kitten just fell to the floor and to my surprise, he was hanging on to the back of the couch!

This was not the last time I would see him hanging around. One night I heard a scary crazy clawing sound on my backdoor and there in the window is Kahlua hanging onto the rim of the glass!

Kahlua does this whenever he wants to come in, he doesn’t meow like regular cats, he climbs the door to look in and he can hang there for a good bit! This cat has also become like a 3rd dog to us.

We have this trail that goes into the woods that we walk our Akita and Bulldog and hike it and right behind us is Kahlua! If I go down to the garden, here comes Kahlua, he will follow us where ever we go as if he was one of the dogs!

In my early teens, my family and I visited our local Humane Society. We were looking for a dog, however my younger brother and I met two kittens that we just fell in love with.

My kitten, a big orange tiger cat, had the coolest, calmest eyes. Bold orange stripes criss-crossed his long lanky frame, and yellow-green eyes peered out from under half closed lids. Tigger became his name, since I was worried that if we named him Tiger, he would begin to pounce with real intent.

Tigger was always into something as a small kitten. He would frequently worm his way under our bathroom door, and join me in the shower. I’ll never forget the day he realized he was too big to fit under the door any longer.

I heard the most distressed howl issue from him, and jumped out of the shower to rescue my poor, very upset, kitty. From that day forward, if I went to shower, I had to find Tigger first and invite him in.

The times I could not find him, he would wait for me, by the door, usually sticking his long front legs under the door just to let me know he was there, and waiting for me.

Tigger grew to be a very large cat. Our vet thought he must have had some Maine Coon Cat in his bloodlines. As Tigger aged, he became more demanding, and continued to be filled with character and surprises.

His other “trick” was to encourage me to feed him- faster. Tigger was tall enough that he could stretch his front paws up onto the counter in the kitchen, and feel around for his food.

If I was too slow in opening the cans, he would try to swipe them from my hand. If all else failed, he resorted to loud yowling at me, and continually swatting my behind.

Tigger was a cherished member of the household for many years. I have met many other cats since him, but somehow, none seemed to have his unique quality for mischief. It has been almost 20 years since Tigger passed away, and I still miss him.

I love my cat. She can be the sweetest most loving little creature in the world! She lays by my feet at night and I can hear her purr and it puts me in a wonderful mood.

She is very smart and comes running to me whenever she hears me open the cabinet with her food inside. That cabinet has a certain little squeak that I can barely hear! Her name is Bumpy!

My son names her on the day we got her. He was 5 that day. We heard a knock at the door. One of the neighborhood children had this sweet tiny little kitten in his arms and told us that she didn’t have a home and if we wanted her. I never had a cat before in my life and at one point I was very allergic to cats.

But she was so beautiful! A long haired grey tabby! My son named her Bumpy since her stripes made her look bumpy! We took her home that day and the rest is history.

She’s the perfect addition to our family. It’s been just over a year and we are so very thankful for the neighborhood boy that knocked on our door.

My cat’s name is Cricket. He is a small tabby with a lot of energy. How Cricket came to our house is a sad one. My boyfriend’s friend died in a car crash a while back and Cricket was left without a home.

We wanted to get a cat anyways, and we figured that taking him in would have special meaning. A time lapsed between us actually adopting him and his friend’s passing.

He was left outside most of the time and acquired fleas and ear mites. We had to fight the critters pretty hard to get rid of them.

Cricket has seemed a lot happier since he’s not getting bitten all the time. He seems to sleep all day, but gets very hyper active in the evenings and early morning. He’s become our natural alarm clock…one that pounces on your face!

He seems to like just about any toy (or non-toy) we put in front of him. He is also fond of our vertical blinds (at least someone likes them). I don’t think he’s particularly smart since he’s chases shadows and does some obviously unintelligent things regularly.

But he’s cute. He’s my Cricket.

Aloysius, the cat, was my loyal companion from November 1986 to January 2006. I found him in a pet store at the local mall. His beautiful solid white coat and mismatched blue and green eyes melted my heart, and I begged my husband to let me take him home.

It took a lot of begging, and it was well worth it. “Wishy” didn’t seem very smart, but he did prove himself to be cunning. Most days I would come home from work to find one of the drawers open in my bedroom chest.

I knew that I had not gone out for the day and left it open, yet it kept happening over and over. It was always the same drawer – the one where I kept my lingerie.

One day my routine was interrupted, and I was home a little later than usual. I came into the bedroom to find Aloysius examining that chest of drawers intently, so I backed out of the room and stood where I could see his reflection in the mirror.

He jumped up from the floor and clung to the bottom of the lingerie drawer by his claws. His weight pulled the drawer, and it locked open! He released his grip and dropped to the floor, then jumped on the bed.

From there, it was an easy leap inside the drawer for a nap in the middle of my nice soft lingerie! The chest of drawers was old and distressed, so I never noticed the damage my cat had done by hanging from the drawer by his claws.

Once I caught him in the act, it was easy to see where he had done the deed many times in the past. So much for my not-very-smart cat! He had taught himself a very useful trick in order to gain the nicest sleeping spot in the house.

I have a black cat named Edgar. He’s about 3 years old now, and we’ve had him for about two years. We found Edgar at a local animal shelter where we get all our cats. He’s a black American shorthair.

We do not know if he is a purebred or not. The animal shelter found him on the streets and rescued him. When we went to the animal shelter, they have a room where they keep all the cats and kittens.

There the kittens and cats are let out of their cages so that people can interact with them. When we entered the room and sat down on the floor, a small black cat came up to me almost instantly. We bonded quickly.

We ended up adopting the small black cat. His name was Edgar when we got him, and couldn’t come up with anything to name him. So the name just stuck with him.

He didn’t really like the car ride home, so I had to hold him all the way back. He’s a very sweet cat, but can be quite ornery. He enjoys playing with bells, toy mouse , and even chasing the woodland creatures around our house.

Now that he’s been fixed, he’s not as energetic as he once was. He sleeps a lot more during the day, and plays with our other cats during the night. Almost every hour, he will jump on my bed at night and cuddle up with me for some scratching.

He does this from between 11:00 pm to 5:00 am. When I wake up at around 6:00 in the morning for school, he’s somewhere in my room.

Usually he likes to walk between my legs as I’m getting dressed. Our cats are fed three times a day. When I wake up (6:00 am), when I get home from school, (4:00 pm) and after dinner (9:00-9:30 pm).

They aren’t the skinniest cats in the world. But they aren’t the fattest. Edgar is a reasonable size for a housecat. He’s healthy from playing outside and we take him to the vet for check-ups seasonally. We love all our cats, past and present.

My last addition to our cat family is Marmite, he is a pure black domestic shorthair. He is the son of my cat Toots she had a litter of all boys, 4 black shorthaired and one fluffy ginger boy.

I called Marmite his name because when he was about 5 weeks old I was eating Marmite on toast and he tried to steal it and I sat there feeding him the rest of my piece of toast. He is 6 months old now and a real mummy’s boy he loves to be where ever I am even coming in the bathroom with me.

He likes to sit with me while I am using the computer either laying on my arm, which is annoying when I am trying to type or if I keep putting him on the floor he will jump up on my shoulder and go to sleep.

He also loves meeting new people and as soon as someone new come to the house he will either tap them on the back when they sit down or jump on their laps. He also like to help my children with their homework ( well at least he thinks he is ) and sulks if they push him away.

He has also just taught the younger kittens in the house to use a litter box by using it himself and calling to them he also washes the younger kittens. Marmite also has a habit of acting like a dog when I return home from going out by jumping up at me and licking me, he has turned into a very special cat.

My husband had said I was not keeping any more cats because we have 6 already but I got my own way and I am so glad I did. I hope he will be with us for many years to come and I am really sure that he will develop many more funny ways and habits as I am really not sure whether he thinks he is a cat a dog or a human just maybe he thinks he is all 3 but one thing is for sure he definitely keeps us amused.

I actually have two cats. The female is named Nila and she came from one of my daughter’s friends. She is named after a character from an Anne Rice novel and the name means “the spirit of the Nile”. She is the older of the two cats.

The other cat is a male and his name is Horus. He was named after the ancient Egyptian god with the falcon head. He does think he is a god. He has managed to achieve the weight of 17 pounds although I think he lost some weight this summer.

Both cats know when it’s time for food. There is no sleeping in for me. Nila often settles herself on top of me and takes a nap. Horus has figured out that I’ll wake up if he rattles the blinds.

They love to lick each other, but then they start a fight which Horus usually looses. My kitchen window looks out into a courtyard and there are people that pass by.

Nila sits at that window and when I’m outside she mews, but the mew is very soft. I can barely hear it.

Horus loves dogs and this bothers Nila who hates them. Both cats have a way of finding cubby holes for taking naps. My closet is one of their favorites. There is also the towel cupboard in the bathroom.

They like to open the kitchen cupboards and walk around. I suspect that Horus goes into the cupboard under the sink to sniff the bleach bottle. I didn’t think that cats could fart until I got these two. Horus was the worst.

When he was a kitten he was very small and I was surprised that he could make that much stink. They don’t have as much as a gas problem as they once did. I still hear an occasional toot out of Horus. If Nila is still gaseous, she hides it well.
