I actually have two cats. The female is named Nila and she came from one of my daughter’s friends. She is named after a character from an Anne Rice novel and the name means “the spirit of the Nile”. She is the older of the two cats.

The other cat is a male and his name is Horus. He was named after the ancient Egyptian god with the falcon head. He does think he is a god. He has managed to achieve the weight of 17 pounds although I think he lost some weight this summer.

Both cats know when it’s time for food. There is no sleeping in for me. Nila often settles herself on top of me and takes a nap. Horus has figured out that I’ll wake up if he rattles the blinds.

They love to lick each other, but then they start a fight which Horus usually looses. My kitchen window looks out into a courtyard and there are people that pass by.

Nila sits at that window and when I’m outside she mews, but the mew is very soft. I can barely hear it.

Horus loves dogs and this bothers Nila who hates them. Both cats have a way of finding cubby holes for taking naps. My closet is one of their favorites. There is also the towel cupboard in the bathroom.

They like to open the kitchen cupboards and walk around. I suspect that Horus goes into the cupboard under the sink to sniff the bleach bottle. I didn’t think that cats could fart until I got these two. Horus was the worst.

When he was a kitten he was very small and I was surprised that he could make that much stink. They don’t have as much as a gas problem as they once did. I still hear an occasional toot out of Horus. If Nila is still gaseous, she hides it well.
